2024-25 Season Results - October

Three NZC Major Association games kicked of the Bay Oval 2024-25 representative season, when the Auckland Aces paid a weeklong visit to Mount Maunganui, at the end of October 2024.
 
With the Auckland One-Day venue of Eden Park out of action due to a concert, the Auckland Aces set up camp in the Western Bay of Plenty, to play three Ford Trophy matches in eight days.

Auckland Aces v Wellington Firebirds
23 October 2024

 

First up, the Aces faced the challenge of the Wellington Firebirds who won the toss and chose to bowl first. Wellington quickly had their opponents on the back foot with only new South African recruit, Michael Sclanders, showing real defiance batting at four.
 
Sclanders, was dismissed for 35 off 50 balls, with Auckland in trouble at with 86 runs on the board with just four wickets in hand.
 
Wellington were made to work for the eventual four wicket win. Opener Tim Robinson was the anchor in hitting 72 from 95 balls. Lockie Ferguson was the best of the Aces bowling attack with three wickets.
 
Result: Auckland Aces 140 (MH Sclanders 35) lost to Wellington Firebirds 141/6 (TB Robinson 72; LH Ferguson 3/33)


 
Auckland Aces v Otago Volts

26 October 204


A Otago Volts team brimming with confidence arrived at the Mount Maunganui international venue, determined to take the win points home. Auckland won the toss and inserted the South Island visitors.
 
Opener Dale Phillips top scored with 72 runs with Leo Carter coming in at five reaching 62 before being dismissed. Otago set the temporary home team a good-sized target after reaching 283 for the loss of nine wickets.
 
South African born Michael Sclanders set the platform for the Aces victory with 107 from 112 balls. His ton included nine 4’s and three big hits over the boundary ropes. Jock Miller also made a winning contribution with 66 runs, as Auckland got home with four wickets to spare.
 
Result: Otago Volts 283/9 (DN Phillips 72, LJ Carter 62; DK Ferns 3/66) lost to Auckland Aces 285/6 (MH Sclanders 107, JJ McKenzie 66; T Muller 3/63)


 

Auckland Aces v Canterbury

30 October 2024
 
With a delayed start and rain clouds around, Auckland won the toss and asked the Canterbury Kings to bat first. The Kings were quickly in trouble, with the Aces pair of Simon Keene and Lockie Ferguson, in full flight. Canterbury were bundled out for 109, with Keene taking the first five wicket bag of the Bay Oval, for just 29 runs.
 
Auckland easily hit their target contest courtesy of the Duckworth Lewis method of deciding rain affected matches. Sean Solia top scored with 45 runs.
 
Result: Canterbury Kings 109 (SB Keene 5/29, LH Ferguson 3/33) lost to Auckland Aces 108/3 (S Solia 45)
