2024-25 Season Results - March

It doesn't get much better than a Black Cap/White Ferns double-header at the Bay Oval to whet the appetite of Kiwi cricket fans.

What they got served up on Sunday 23rd March 2025 was two very one-sided affairs.

The Black Caps went into the evening match, two-one ahead in the five-match series, with the prospect of victory sending the visitors home without the silverware in their luggage.

Pakistan won the flip of the coin and sent the New Zealand representatives into bat. Finn Allen and Tim Seifert got the hosts away to a flyer in reaching 59, before Seifert was removed for 44.

Allen continued on before being caught in the field for a neat half-century. Batting at seven, skipper Mark Bracewell belted 46 runs from just 26 balls, as the Black Caps posted an impressive 220 for the loss of six wickets.

The second half of the encounter belonged to the New Zealand bowlers who rolled Pakistan for 105, to take out a big 115 run win. Jacob Duffy grabbed four wickets at a cost of 20 runs with Zak Foulkes taking three Pakistan bowling scalps.

The Black Caps win continued an impressive T20 International record at the Mount Maunganui venue. From eleven completed games, the home side representatives have compiled seven wins over, Bangladesh (3) West Indies (2) Sri Lanka and Pakistan and just three losses to India (2) and Pakistan.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Australian Women's side gave their New Zealand counterparts a cricket lesson.

Australia won the toss and immediately went on attack in putting the boundary ropes under siege. Beth Mooney led the way with 70 runs, which included eleven 4’s, in a solid partnership with Georgia Voll that produced 57 runs.

Batting at three, Phoebe Litchfield hit 32 runs, in an innings that saw 204 for the loss of just three wickets.

Only Melie Kerr showed any real defiance in the White Ferns reply as she posted 40 runs from 36 balls. New Zealand were removed with just 122 runs on the board in the seventeenth over to hand their opponents an 82 run victory.

Earlier in the month, the Bay of Plenty representative team stretched their winning sequence to ten for the season, with a win over Counties Manukau in a Fergus Hickey Rosebowl two-day fixture.

Bay of Plenty had to work hard to post 214 all out, before securing first innings points when they removed Counties for 158. Season debutant, Mathew Madeley who was playing just his sixth match in the Bay of Plenty strip grabbed four wickets for 40 runs.

Bay of Plenty then stretched their advantage to nearly three hundred runs in their second turn at bat. Fergus Lellman was in blazing form in belting 126 runs with Gus Tustin posting an unbeaten 58.

The International season at the Bay Oval concludes in the first weekend of April, when Pakistan return to the Bay Oval for an ODI encounter with the Black Caps, on Saturday 5th April 2025.
