BEYOND THE BAY OVAL LIGHTS - Club Finals to Played at Bay Oval

While the razzle-dazzle of international cricket at the Bay Oval has ended for the current season there is plenty more cricket action to come at the Blake Park venue in the next six weeks.

The Bay Oval Trust also looks after the two grass and one artificial wicket on the upper level of Blake Park, that stand adjacent to the state of the art grass cricket nets.

A February & March festival of local cricket at Blake Park, kicks off on the 22/23 February, with a ND Fergus Hickey Rosebowl match between Bay of Plenty and Waikato Valley. On show in the two-day game, will be established Bay players such as Peter Drysdale who has played a century of matches in the Bay of Plenty uniform.

It is likely that a trio of Bay of Plenty ND players in Daniel Flynn, Bharat Popli and Brett Hampton will be available for selection. At the other end of the experience spectrum is rising young star Taylor Bettelheim, who has hammered 246 runs in just three senior representative outings.

On Saturday 22 February, back to back cricket action will take place with a BOPCA Williams Cup match taking place between Mount Maunganui and Central Indians, on the adjacent Blake Park two wicket.

Western Bay of Plenty grade cricket will take centre stage on the 29 February and the 7 March on Blake Park one.

Williams Cup action returns to Blake Park on the 14 March, in what could be a crucial showdown in the race to the semi-finals, with Mount Maunganui hosting arch rivals Cadets on Blake one.

Baywide Reserve Grade cricket will be on show at the Bay Oval on Thursday 19 March, when the McNaughton Trophy Final is played out under lights. The inaugural McNaughton shootout twelve months ago, attracted a very enthusiastic group of Western Bay of Plenty cricket fans.

The local cricket season will finish with the Williams Cup Final on the Bay Oval on Saturday 28 February 2020. Few club players in the country receive the opportunity to play on international wickets with the generosity of the Bay Oval Trust management making this possible.
