BEYOND THE BAY OVAL LIGHTS - Winter Training

A number well known Black Cap and White Fern faces will seen around Mount Maunganui on a regular basis, with the staging of combined squad 2020 winter training at the Bay Oval.

The three week-long Mount Maunganui training camps in July, August and September, will see selected North Island New Zealand players train in the marquee covered grass nets at the Bay Oval.

Some innovative thinking where a tent like structure was put over the Bay Oval grass nets, gives the ground an indoor-like grass wicket block, giving the Black Caps and White Ferns the luxury of training on grass in the depths of winter.

It will be a home-coming for Black Cap skipper Kane Williamson, pace bowler Trent Boult and White Fern Anna Peterson - who are all graduates of the Bay of Plenty Cricket age-group pathway. Anna Peterson, who wrote her own piece of ICC cricket history with a T20 hat-trick against Australia in 2017, played for the ND and BOPCA Women's sides before her move north to the City of Sails.

The Bay of Plenty Black Cap locals, expanded with the addition of Neil Wagner, Colin de Grandhomme and Black Cap bowling coach Shane Jurgensen into the ranks of Western Bay of Plenty residents.
